BID Rathausquartier

COZY FLAIR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY CENTER

Situated between Rathausmarkt, Domplatz and Nikolaifleet, the Rathausquartier (Townhall quarter) forms an important part of Hamburg's city center. As a place of urban life - colorful, diverse and lively - it is characterized in particular by its gastronomic scene. The redevelopment offers further lively meeting points for everyone, and create attractive places to spend time alongside the shopping area.

The focus is on converting some street sections into pedestrian zones. The aim is to create more space for pedestrians and local restaurants, and to reduce the traffic volume as much as possible.

Concept

The neighboring Nikolai Quarter plays a particular role in the future design. The design style of the surfaces and furnitures will be adopted, giving a homogeneous image and flowing transitions between two quarters.

Along the paved streets are functional strips. There are places for parking lots, loading zones, as well as bike stands and new plantings. The side areas will be differenciated with beige concrete slabs, which will be supplemented in the pedestrian zone by areas with small stone pavers. In combination with benches and new plantings, a cozy flair is created.
